]]><![CDATA[Fall AIMS Testing for Juniors & Seniors]]>Mon, 10 Oct 2011 13:16:06 -0800http://www.lavavirtual.com/1/post/2011/10/fall-aims-testing-for-juniors-seniors.htmlFall AIMS testing has arrived!  All graduates are required to pass (a score of Meets or Exceeds) the AIMS writing, reading and math tests in order to obtain an Arizona diploma.   While all junior and seniors are welcome to test, only those who have not passed AIMS are required to test.  The test dates are as follows (NOTE:  There is NOT any make up testing in the fall):

AIMS Writing:  October 25th
AIMS Reading:  October 26th
AIMS Math:  October 27th


If your student is required to test, you should receive a letter in the mail with your testing center location.  Testing usually begins before 9 am, we will notify you of the exact time as the testing date gets closer.  AIMS is NOT a timed test – students should plan on the test lasting anywhere from two to four hours.

Augmentation Information:   If a student does not pass AIMS, the law allows us to increase their test score using a formula based on student grades.  This is called “augmentation”.   In order for the school to use augmentation to increase a test score, the student must test at every opportunity.

Graduate Information:  If you are a student graduating before Jan 1st, 2012 and you do not pass AIMS this October you can come back and take AIMS this spring.   By doing this, you also agree to fulfill the graduation requirements for 2012 which require three credits in math and a half credit in Economics.

  1. Choose PASS from our website - www.lavavirtual.com
  2. Enter your student's ID and your PASS PIN, these are the same as the information you use for parent access to the course login.   
  3. After you have the correct ID & PIN number, click on the Attendance link below.
Some things to keep in mind . . .
  • PASS is updated once a day in the early morning
  • If you see Brainhoney Attendance in the comment column, that indicates the record is uploaded from Brainhoney
  • In order to simplify your student's attendance record, time from Brainhoney is ALWAYS reported as starting at 12:01 am.  The total amount of time you see recorded matches the total number of minutes Brainhoney recorded

During our back to school event, two LAVA students applied and got accepted to TRiO.  TRiO is a program designed to help students finish high school and prepare for college.   

According to the Friendly House website, TRiO  targets 600 students from our target schools who have the potential to attend a college or university, who are from low income backgrounds and are considered to be the first generation in their families to attend college.
Participants in the program are encouraged to complete secondary school and are provided the academic support, guidance and assistance needed to succeed in institutions of higher education. Some of the services provided to the students by the ETS program include; after school tutoring, time management skills, parent workshops, mentoring, study skills, cultural activities as well as a one week summer camp.

LAVA is excited to offer TRiO to our students through its partnership with Friendly House.
